Habitat for Humanity golf fundraiser set for April 14  at The Max

The Fifth Annual Habitat For Humanity-Laredo Golfing Roofs tournament will offer outstanding prizes for some lucky participants. The April 14 two-man scramble at the Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course opens with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Registration is at 7 a.m.

According to Habitat for Humanity executive director Carol Sherwood, Family Chevrolet is the title sponsor for the event. Included on the list of prizes is a 2018 Toyota Camry for a hole-in-one on the No. 12 hole sponsored by Powell Watson Motors.

Golfers can also be eligible for a million-dollar shot, a $50,000 shot, and a $2,500 putting contest. Habitat staffers and volunteers are working  with Mandel Course general manager Dennis Gutierrez to accomodate 140 golfers. The deadline for registration is April 9.

Sponsorships are available at several levels — $10,000, $5,000, $2,500, $1,500, $1,000, $750, and $500. Sponsorships include golfers and recognition signs on the course. The registration fee includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart, breakfast tacos, lunch, two beverage tickets, a goodie bag, and a chance to win door prizes. There will also be raffle items.

According to Mark Ochoa, president of the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, the organization’s mission is “seeking to put God’s love into action” by building affordable homes for families who qualify under Habitat’sguidelines.

Tax deductible donations to Habitat can be mailed to 4703 Warehouse Lane; Laredo, Texas; 78041. The organization offers neighborhood revitalization programs like Aging in Place, A Brush With Kindness, and disaster relief. Students and adults are invited to volunteer.

Habitat’s ReStore is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday, offering new and used construction items and household goods. To donate building materials and furniture, contact ReStore manager Alfredo Castillo.
