Webb County Pct. 4 Commissioner Jaime Canales has suspended his campaign for re-election. The news of his withdrawal came via a media alert from County PIO Larry Sanchez that included the letter that follows:
A Letter From Commissioner Jaime Canales
Dear Constituents,
For the last 7 years, as promised, I have dedicated my life to serving you. I am proud of all the work done in helping our families, youth, elderly, and most especially our veterans. My mission has always been to create opportunities for a better quality of life that we can all enjoy. I feel very proud to have done it with a great staff, excellent volunteers, and the support of our community. I will forever cherish the many friendships I have made throughout my tenure as commissioner and I am thankful to everyone in our commissioner’s court.
I plan on continuing my commitment to public service and doing my job for the rest of my term which ends on December 31, 2018; however after much consideration of my future professional career path and major health concerns affecting my immediate family, I have decided to suspend my campaign and withdraw from the upcoming election.
Let me be clear, I am not resigning but merely not seeking re-election. I ask that my family’s privacy in this matter please be respected. Again, I want to stress, I will continue to do my job as the commissioner of pct. 4 and will keep my devotion to my constituents for the remainder of my term.
Sincerely,
Jaime A. Canales
Webb County Commissioner
