In collaboration with the City of Laredo, the Mexican Consulate, the Mexican Cultural Institute, the City of Laredo Visitors and Convention Bureau, and Laredo Parks and Recreation Department, the Laredo Center for the Arts presents its Annual Dia de los Muertos Cultural Celebration.
El Dia de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican celebration to honor the dead.
The event will take place at Laredo Center for the Arts, in the heart of downtown Laredo at 500 San Agustin, in conjunction with Caminarte, Laredo’s downtown art walk on Friday, November 3, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Dia de los Muertos Cultural Celebration will feature an altar exhibit, a student exhibit, hands-on workshops, traditional music and dance performances, food vendors, and Hecho a Mano’s handmade art market.
This family friendly event is free and open to the public. Attendees are invited al to dress as catrin/catrinas or calaveras.
The schedule of events is as follows:
- 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Hands-on Workshops for how to make paper flowers, papel picado, skull masks.
- Musical performer
- 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Altar and student exhibits open to view
- Hecho a Mano
- 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Mariachi performance
- 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Music and ballet folklorico presentations
Street closure at 500 San Agustin Street directly in front of LCA will begin at 2 p.m. the day of the event and remain closed until 9:00 pm.
