As part of the Río Grande International Study Center’s (RGISC) Dia del Rio celebration, Laredoans turned out by kayak and canoe Saturday morning for a three-mile paddling excursion on the Río Grande.
The river travelers included biologist and RGISC co-founder Dr. Tom Vaughan.
The event was hosted by The Outlet Shoppes, which held a post-paddle reception for the participants.
Participants registered at the Outlet Shoppes and were shuttled to the Laredo Water Museum where they put in and paddled to International Bridge I.
The City of Laredo, Southern Distributing, and Laredo Kayak were also participating sponsors of the event.
The three-mile jaunt is part of what will eventually become a 20-mile Texas Parks and Wildlife Paddling Trail broken into multiple segments. There are 72 Paddling Trails in Texas.
