LTGI AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS
- You will be required to read dialogue from the script. You will be asked to read parts other than the one you might be auditioning for.
- There will be singing required, have 16-32 measures of a song ready to sing, preferably a song from a musical. If you don’t have a song from a musical prepared, that’s okay. We just want to hear your voice.
- There will also be a dance call. The choreographer will teach a combination (that’s a short section of a dance routine) or two during this audition, and you and a group will dance. Dress to move. Dance shoes are not required but if you have some, then by all means, bring them in.
Some tips for a successful audition:
- Sing a song you really love. If you sing a song you’re passionate about, you will have a more genuine performance. People love passion. Do not sing a song you aren’t absolutely in love with because the people on the other side of the audition table can see right through that. We want you to be happy!
- Dress comfortably. Cute, but comfortable. Like you’re going on a coffee date. Keep in mind that there is a dance call, so if you don’t want to wear your Lulu Lemon yoga pants throughout the entire audition process, feel free to just bring them with you and not wear them until the dance call.
- Rehearse your song with a pianist or karaoke track. Get familiar with your voice. Often, people will rehearse with the soundtrack, and then when they get to the audition room and have a piano, they freak out because they’re not used to their voice. Don’t be that person. If you need help, ask. If you have any questions regarding the process, there are people in this company that are more than happy to help. People love people who ask for help. If you bring sheet music, please do not expect the accompanist to play anything that is not on the page (change the key, tempo, etc.) Please, no recorded music, and learn the lyrics. You may sing without music.
- Be familiar with the musical. Know the story, listen to the soundtrack, watch the movie if you’d like. At the audition, you will not only sing your song, but you will do some reading of dialogue. If you get called back, they will ask you to sing excerpts (maybe a whole song) from the musical. The more familiar you are with the musical, the less stressful the audition process will be. Guaranteed.
- We want you to do well. If you prepare well, the people on the other side of the audition table will see that. Hard work and passion is required for this show.
