LCC’s Distinguished Speaker Series welcomed former DEA agents Javier Peña and Steve Murphy who, along with the Colombian National Police, contributed to the capture of Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria, inventor of narco-terrorism and one of the century’s most wanted criminals.

The gathering of March 22 heard the agents share their experiences in Colombia. Peña and Murphy saw the violence that penetrated the country as a result of the rise of cocaine, the high demand of drugs, and the multi-million dollar operations of the Medellin Cartel.

After sharing their experiences and highlighting many different characters of the Colombian drug scene, the two ended by clarifying that they owe their lives and the fall of Pablo Escobar to the Colombian National Police, who they say were “the true heroes in this story, as they were able to take their country back from the hands of Escobar.”
