Just in time for Halloween, the Webb County Heritage Foundation presents a photo exhibit entitled “Cities of the Dead – Laredo-Area Historic Cemeteries” on display now at the Villa Antigua® Border Heritage Museum, 810 Zaragoza St.

The exhibit features photographs of cemeteries located in the Laredo, Webb County area including the local Catholic Calvary Cemetery, City Cemetery, Dolores Cemetery, and Islitas Cemetery.

Highlighted are the cemeteries’ monuments and statuary, as well as designated sections for fraternal organizations and members of religious orders.

Also on display in the exhibit is a selection of historic obituaries of local community members.

Included in the exhibit brochure is additional information about Laredo’s early cemeteries (predating the existing ones) as well as on the rural San José de Palafox Cemetery, the Lerma Family Cemetery, the Aguilares Cemetery, Las Magnolias Cemetery, and Los Ojuelos Cemetery. Information provided in this brochure is from the Laredo Area Cemetery Guide and Historic Preservation Plan, a project sponsored by the City of Laredo Historic District/Landmark Board, City of Laredo Parks and Recreation Department, City of Laredo Planning Department, Webb County Archaeological Society, Webb County Heritage Foundation, and the Webb County Historical Commission.

The public is invited to view the exhibit that will be on display throughout November. The exhibit is located on the second story of the museum, accessible by staircase only.
